Gwalior: Ace badminton player Saina Nehwal, who won three titles in three weeks in June, said she was aiming to win the World badminton Championship, to be played in Paris next month.

"My goal is to win World Badminton Championship to be played at Paris," Nehwal, who participated in the Madhya Pradesh Government's ambitious 'School Chale Hum' drive told reporters here.

Saina, the World number 3, said that while reaching the top was not an easy task, retaining the position was more difficult.

"One reaches the top with great amount of hard work, but retaining that position is more challenging as people expect you to always remain there," she said.

She said she always took her opponents seriously and never underestimated them.

Asked to comment on the predictions made by the Paul, the psychic octopus, during the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, she said, "Octopus Paul played better in the Championship."

Saina's mentor P Gopichand, who is the Chief Coach of the Badminton Academy launched by the Madhya Pradesh government, said the academy will produce more players like Nehwal and added that there is no dearth of talent in the country.

Earlier, Saina along with Gopichand visited the academy. Gwalior MP, Yashodhararaje Scindia was also present on the occasion. PTI
