From Manika Batra to Saina Nehwal - India's Nari Shakti illuminate Gold Coast Games

The recently concluded 2018 Commonwealth Games saw India's 'Nari Shakti' or women's power illuminating the Gold Coast event furthermore with their medal-clinching heroics. As many as 27 Indian women athletes brought home laurels from the multi-sporting extravaganza, held from April 4 to 15 in Australia.

Thanks to the lady luck, India concluded their Commonwealth Games 2018 campaign on the third spot with 66 medals, including 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze. Out of all 66, 31 medals were clinched by women either individually or in a combined effort.

In fact, Table Tennis star Manika Batra - with four medals - was the star performer for India. She stood out with two gold, one silver and one bronze - the most number of medals won by an Indian athlete at CWG 2018.

This is India's second-best performance at the Games, following their 101-medal haul at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. India ended up with two more medals than the last edition in Glasgow.

Shooters bagged the most number of medals - 16, followed by the wrestlers (12), weightlifters (9), boxers (9), table tennis (8), badminton (6), athletics (3), squash (2) and para powerlifting (1).

GOLD

India's golden girls, including Saina Nehwal, Manika Batra, Vinesh Phogat, MC Mary Kom, Tejaswini Sawant, Shreyasi Singh, Heena Sidhu, Manu Bhaker, Punam Yadav, Sanjita Chanu and Mirabai Chanu, claimed 13 medals in total.

Gold in Women's Table Tennis event. 
Manu Bhaker - Women's 10m Air Pistol.
Punam Yadav - Women's 69 kg Weightlifting.
Sanjita Chanu - Women's 53 kg Weightlifting.
Mirabai Chanu - Women's 48 kg Weightlifting.

SILVER

In the silver's list of 11 medals, athletes who contributed were PV Sindhu, Dipika Pallikal, Joshna Chinappa, Mouma Das, Anjum Moudgil, Pooja Dhanda, Seema Punia, Mehuli Ghosh and Babita Kumari.

BRONZE

Shuttlers Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy, wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Divya Kakran and Kiran, athlete Navjeet Dhillon and shooter Apurvi Chandela contributed to India’s seven bronze medal out of 20 in all.
