Commonwealth Games 2018: India's Sushil Kumar wins Gold medal in Men's Freestyle 74kg Wrestling.

India's star wrestler Sushil Kumar on Thursday won the gold medal in Men's Freestyle 74kg category by defeating South Africa's Johannes Botha in the final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2018, Gold Coast in Australia. This is India's 14th gold medal and 29th overall at the 21st Commonwealth Games. The medals tally also includes 6 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Sushil proved too good for the South African wrestler and defeated him on technical superiority. The Indian veteran took a minute and 20 seconds to defeat Botha and to claim his third successive gold medal at the Games.

Botha was no match for Sushil, who pulled off a four-point move in the opening seconds of the first round. Sushil star then executed a series of two-point moves which gave him a 10-0 lead and the gold.

Sushil has won gold at the CWG final for the third consecutive time. He had won gold in the now disbanded 66kg category at the 2010 edition in New Delhi before winning the 74kg title at the 2014 CWG in Glasgow, Scotland.

Earlier, Sushil - a two-time Olympic medallist - entered the finals of men's freestyle 74kg gold medal match with out breaking a sweat.

Sushil first overpowered Jevon Balfour of Canada to enter the quarter-finals. He then defeated Pakistan's Muhammad Asad Butt to enter the semis.

Sushil, who won the bronze medal at 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver at the 2012 London Olympics, then decimated Australia's Connor Evans in the semis.
