A day after he was cleared of doping charges, wrestler Narsingh Yadav met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi where the PM told him that there would be no injustice done to him.
After meeting the Prime Minister, an elated Yadav said “Unhone ashirwad diya, kaha ki aapke sath kabhi anyaay nahi hoga, aap mehnat kariye aur apne country ke liye medal jitiye (He gave me his blessings and said there will never be injustice done to you, you work hard and win medals for your counrry).”
On the question whether he would represent India at Rio Olympics, Yadav seemed quite hopeful. “I believe I will definitely go for Rio Olympics and win medal for my country,” he said.
Yesterday, after the news broke out that he was exonerated by the National Anti-Doping Agency, he thanked the Prime Minister.
"I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bailing out a poor wrestler like me. I also thank Brij Bhushanji. Whatever I am today is because of him," Narsingh said while referring to Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Saran Singh, a BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Kaiserganj.
The Olympic-bound athlete has been given a clean chit by the NADA saying that he was a victim of sabotage and the one-time ingestion by Narsingh was not within his knowledge and strengthens his claim. The anti-doping body also overturned the provisional suspension imposed on him in connection with the alleged doping case.
Narsingh's chances of participating in the upcoming Rio Games came under a cloud last week when he returned a positive result for a dope test conducted by the NADA on June 25.
The 26-year-old's 'B' sample also tested positive for a banned substance, jeopardising his chances of competing in what will be his second Summer Olympic Games.
Narsingh had claimed of a conspiracy to frame him and had filed a police report in this regard, although he refrained from naming anyone.
However, it is still unclear whether Narsingh will go to the Rio Games, starting on August 5.
