Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, 29,  is India’s most successful badminton player in women’s singles with two individual Olympic medals and various Golds in international tournaments.

Hailing from Hyderabad, Sindhu emerged at the youth level after winning gold in the Junior Commonwealth Games in 2011 and the 2012 Asian Junior Championships. She soon started playing at the national level for India and made an immediate impact rising as one of the most talented badminton players to watch out for.

Sindhu’s first international success came in 2013 when she stunned the former world no.1 Wang Shixian to win the World Championships, becoming the first player to win a medal in singles after legendary Prakash Padukone's bronze medal in 1983.

She dominated the 2014 season with three bronze medals in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships. Her biggest achievement came in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games when she clinched the first-ever silver medal for India in badminton.

Sindhu continued her dream run with a gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games and 2019 World Championships. She then became the only third Indian to win multiple individual medals in the Olympics after claiming a bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
