Mirabai Chanu is set to be the only Indian participating in the weightlifting category in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. She famously clinched India’s first-ever silver medal in weightlifting during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and remains hopeful of repeating her heroics in the Games this year as well.

Chanu, 29, first impressed at the international level with a bronze medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and then claimed gold in the 2017 World Championships in Anaheim.

Chanu created history in the 2018 Commonwealth Games as she became the first Indian to win gold in weightlifting. She broke the tournament record by lifting 196 kg, 86 kg in Snatch, and 110 kg in Clean and Jerk.

At the 2022 Tokyo Olympics, she lifted 202 kg to win the silver medal in the women’s 49kg category. She set a new Olympics record by successfully lifting 115kg in Clean and Jerk and became the second Indian woman after PV Sindhu to win a silver in the Summer Olympics.
