Only three Indian boxers have won an Olympic medal. Lovlina Borgohain is in that elite list with Mary Kom and Vijender Singh.
A tall and lanky pugilist from Assam's Barpathar is currently 26 years old but already has an Olympic medal, an Asian Games Silver and a World Champion crown sitting on her head.
Lovlina was underrated in Tokyo in 2021 but that show saw her hog the limelight across India. The following year was tough, with Lovlina winning only an Asian Championships Gold. She had to change her weight category from 69kg to 76kg as the Paris Games did not have the former category.
She did that and stood with a Gold medal in her first major test after switching the weight - at the World Championships in 2023. She backed that with a Silver at the Asian Games a few months later.
She arrives at the Paris Games with history in her sights. No Indian Boxer has won two Olympic medals, not even the Legendary Mary Kom. How much underrated she may be, Lovlina can now become an Indian boxing great.
