Abhinav Bindra

Abhinav Bindra is the first Indian in history to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics. Neeraj Chopra is the only other Indian to claim the rare achievement. Bindra brought laurels to the nation with his rare achievement at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

Born on September 28, 1982 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, Bindra did his schooling in the city and in Chandigarh. He went to the University of Colorado to pursue higher studies and has a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Bindra developed a liking for the shooting at an early age and was the youngest participant in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. He made his Olympics debut in Sydney in 2000.

He enjoyed a storied career and achieved everything that he could. He clinched four gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze at the Commonwealth Games. Bindra also bagged a silver and a couple of bronze medals at the Asian Games for India.

Other than the Olympic gold, Bindra also won the World Championships gold in 10 m Air Rifle event in Zagreb in 2006. The government of India honoured Bindra with the Arjuna award and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award for his stellar achievements.
