Days after passing of the triple talaq Bill, a man divorced his wife here through triple talaq on WhatsApp from Kuwait. He works as a labourer in Kuwait. After the wife filed a dowry and harassment case against him and his family, the man divorced his wife, police said on Thursday.
An FIR under section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act was lodged against the man at Nebua Naurangia police station following a written complaint by the father of the woman.
The public suit has been filed by the Samastha Kerala Jamiathul Ulema, a religious organisation of Sunni Muslim scholars and clerics in Kerala, which has requested the apex court to strike down the new act as it violate Articles 14, 15 and 21 of the Constitution. The petitioner has also sought an interim stay on the recent law that criminalises triple talaq.
