New Delhi: Following its fifth place finish at the Hockey World League (HWL) Semi-Finals in Belgium, the Indian women's team will now assemble for a preparatory camp at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here from August 8 to 31.
Forty eight players will be part of the camp under chief coach Mathias Ahrens for a week after which the group will be reduced to 33 core probables who will continue in the camp till August 31. The 48 comprise eight goalkeepers, 13 defenders, 10 midfielders and 17 forwards.
"The team performed very well at the HWL Semi-Final. They got a good opportunity to play against the best hockey teams in the world and the experience derived will be important for upcoming tournaments," Ahrens said.
"We faced a few issues in some areas during the tournament and this camp will give us ample time to work on the grey areas. We will work on defence and penalty corners; the areas where the team faced troubles during the tournament. The camp will also see some young talents and we will train them along with the seniors."
