He says he was promised a government job but it never materialised. After receiving no help from the government, he was forced to become a coolie at the Ambala Cantonment station to put food on the table.
But Tara Singh still hasn't lost his love for hockey. He takes his kids to play the game every evening at the local stadium. But when they ask him what's the point of playing hockey if we are going to become labourers like you, his eyes fill with tears.
When Tara Singh tells anyone about his days as a hockey player, they laugh. Nobody can believe that he was a star performer playing for Haryana in the 1999 national hockey championships. He won many matches for his team with his brilliant goals.
But today, instead of lifting his team up, he is lifting the luggage of travellers.
