Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri received a special message from the legendary Croatian Luka Modric ahead of India's FIFA World Cup Qualifier game against Kuwait on Thursday, June 6. Chhetri will be seen donning the Indian jersey for the one last time having announced retirement from international football last month.

The Blue Tigers require a win against Kuwait to remain alive in the World Cup Qualifiers round two but the focus will be on Chhetri when Igo Stimac's men take the field at Kolkata's iconic Salt Lake Stadium. On the eve of the game, the Indian legend appealed to everyone to not make it about his last game and said he is focused on the end result as India stands a big chance to reach the third round of the qualifiers for the first time in their history.

But with 94 goals in 150 international appearances, it is hard to take eyes away from Chhetri. Indian football team shared a video where Luka Modric wished Chhetri all the best ahead of the Kuwait game and asked Stimac to make it special and unforgettable for 'the legend of this game'.

“Hi Sunil, I just want to say hello and wish you all the best in your last game for the national team," Luka Modric said. "Congratulations on your career, you are a legend of this game and to your teammates, I hope you make his last game special and unforgettable. Good luck and win for your captain. All the best and best regards from Croatia.”

Indian head coach Stimac promised to do everything in his power to make Chhetri proud in his reply to Modric's video message. "Thank you, Luka," Igor Stimac said. "We will do everything in our power to make our country and our captain proud."

The Indian football team is placed second in the Group A points table with one win and one draw in four matches of the second round. Notably, India's only win came against Kuwait away in November last year and the hosts maintain an unbeaten head-to-head record against Kuwait.
