Bayern Munich wins women's Bundesliga, ends Wolfburg's reign

Germany midfielder Linda Dallmann scored twice to help Bayern Munich clinch the women’s Bundesliga title with a 4-0 rout of Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

An own-goal from Laura Störzel and a last-minute goal from Lea Schüller — set up by Simone Laudehr in her final game before retirement — ensured Bayern finished the season with 61 points. That's two more than Wolfsburg, whose 8-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen couldn’t prevent the end of its four-year reign as German champion.

Bayern lost only once in the 12-team division all season — at home to Hoffenheim in the 17th round in April — and then kept Wolfsburg at bay with a 1-1 draw in the 20th round last month. Bayern won 20 of its 22 games, while Wolfsburg dropped points in three.

The two clubs’ dominance of women’s soccer in Germany goes back to 2012, when Wolfsburg ended Turbine Potsdam’s four-year winning streak. Potsdam and FFC Frankfurt had previously exchanged the championship since Duisberg won in 2000.

Hoffenheim finished third this season, ahead of Potsdam, to qualify for the Champions League with Bayern and Wolfsburg.
