After failing on seven occasions, Afghanistan finally broke Pakistan's hoodoo in ODIs as they defeated the 1992 world champions by eight wickets in the ongoing World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and their win has helped them climb to sixth spot on the points table.

Afghanistan have now won two games in the ongoing edition of the marquee tournament and have accumulated four points to their credit. On the other hand, Pakistan despite enduring three losses in a row have still managed to stay in the top five teams on the ladder.

The Babar Azam-led side has won just two out of their five games and has a dismal net run rate (NRR) of -0.400. Pakistan's humiliating loss to their Asian neighbours has worked in favour of the five-time world champions Australia.

Australia are now occupying the fourth spot with four points in as many games with a net run rate of -0.193. There is no change in the top three spots as India are at the zenith, New Zealand are second and South Africa are holding on to the third spot. India are still undefeated in the showpiece event with five wins in as many games while the Blackcaps have won four out of five contests and the Proteas have won three games out of the four that they have played.
