Mumbai: With nation waiting with abated breath, the result of India-Pakistan Match, betting syndicates are laughing their ways to bank as reports of over 30,000 crore of betting is doing rounds prompting the Mumbai Police to crackdown on illegal betting.
After Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's strict instructions that he doesn't want any bookmakers operating from the state, investigating agencies have already drawn up a full proof plan. Assigned teams are keeping a strict vigil on betting syndicates. A list of informers is also put on duty to provide the force with the necessary information.
City hotels have been instructed not to rent out rooms for watching matches. Well known bookies have been put on electronic surveillance. The police will also approach the court to cancel the bail of habitual offenders if they are arrested once again.
The betting continues in this World Cup as well with bookmakers betting to the around Rs 30,000 crore for the India-Pakistan match.
"Satta bazaar has been wiped out from Mumbai. Betting now takes place in Nashik," said a bookie
Another bookie said, "This World Cup, Australians are the favourite with Rs 2.40 followed by South Africa for Rs 4, India for Rs 5.50, New Zealand for Rs 6 and Pakistan for Rs 9.50."
Mumbai was once considered as a betting hub but with increased surveillance, bookies have shifted to safe havens like Malaysia, Macau.
