Colombo, Sri Lanka: The International Cricket Council has confirmed Dushmantha Chameera will replace the injured Dhammika Prasad in Sri Lanka's squad for the World Cup.
Prasad was ruled out after fracturing his hand when he attempted a return catch at practice last weekend.
Sri Lanka, which won the 1996 World Cup and has been runner-up in the last two editions, faces New Zealand in the tournament opener in Christchurch on Saturday.
The 23 year-old Chameera has only played one limited-overs international for Sri Lanka, taking two wickets against New Zealand at Wellington last month.
The World Cup technical committee released a statement Tuesday saying it had accepted the fast bowler as Prasad's replacement.
Any injury or illness-based replacement requires a written submission to the World Cup technical committee, along with medical evidence.
