ARNOS VALE, St. Vincent: Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim completed his third test century but could not prevent West Indies from romping to a 10-wicket victory early on day five of the opening cricket test at Arnos Vale Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Mushfiqur was last man out for 116 as Bangladesh, 256-5 overnight, was bowled out for 314 in its second innings. The pint-sized wicketkeeper hit 15 fours and one six off 243 balls in five and a half hours.

Kemar Roach was the best of the hosts' bowlers with 4-64, while fellow pacer Shannon Gabriel grabbed 2-25 and left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn, 2-44.

West Indies, needing just 13 for victory, eased to the target without loss 40 minutes before the lunch interval.

Chris Gayle hit two fours in 9 not out while Kraigg Brathwaite, who earned the man of the match for his marathon first innings of 212, made 4.

Once the West Indies broke through with the first wicket of the day a half hour in, the last five wickets tumbled for 35 runs with none of the lower order offering much resistance with Mushfiqur.

Nasir Hossain, who added 42 with his skipper, eventually fell to the impressive Roach, miscuing a pull over the bowler's head for mid-on to run in and take a comfortable catch at 279-6. Nasir scored 16.

Roach soon added the wicket of Shuvagata Hom, palpably lbw for a duck.

Gabriel also dispatched Taijul Islam and Rubel Hossain without scoring. Taijul, on the back foot, deflected onto his stumps while Rubel was bowled off his pads with a full-length delivery.

Mushfiqur, who survived five chances, brought up his century with a lofted six over long-on as he and last man Al-Amin ensured that West Indies would have to bat again.

They added 22 for the final wicket before the hosts finally held a catch to dismiss Mushfiqur. Darren Bravo ran around on the midwicket boundary to pouch an offering off Jerome Taylor.

Mushfiqur, dropped on 10 and 25 on Monday, survived three more chances on Tuesday.

On 71, Gayle floored a low chance to his right at slip off Taylor while Mushfiqur also survived on 100 when wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin let an edge fly past him off Roach.

The most embarrassing miss came when Taylor grassed a sitter at mid-on off Gabriel when Mushfiqur, on 115, miscued a pull.

But the end was around the corner as Taylor grabbed the final wicket, and the two West Indies openers had no alarms to reaching their modest target.

The second and final test begins in St. Lucia on Saturday.
