New Delhi: Steve Waugh was known as the most disciplined Australian player of his time. He was a great batsman, skipper of Australia who never lost his cool during the matches. But in his last Test match against India in 2003-04 tour, as Waugh fought a grim battle to stave off defeat in the series-deciding fourth Test in Sydney, newly added to the Indian side Wicket keeper Parthiv Patel said, “Come on, just one more of your famous slog sweeps before you finish.” Steve Waugh calmly replied back, “Respect me, for when I made my debut, you were still in your nappies.” Parthiv Patel was 19 years old at that time and Steve Waugh was 38 years old and was saying goodbye to cricket after the test match.
