Vishakhapatnam: West Indies has beaten India in a hard fought contest in the 2nd ODI played here on Sunday by 2 wickets. Darren Sammy slaughtered Indian bowling attack and made 63 runs not out.
West Indies started chasing the 289 target poorly as their 2 wickets fell for cheap. Opener Charles (12) removed by Kumar and Samuels (8) fell off Sharma's delivery.
Windies were struggling at 23-2 when Powell and Jr. bravo stabilised the inning and supported with a century partnership. Both the batsmen scored half century for the team.
Indian bowlers striked back in middle overs by removing Powell and Bravo within 24 runs gap.
But Simmons and Sammy done the job by scoring 82 runs in 75 balls that helped Windies reach near to the target.
Darren Sammy played till the end and scored 63 runs off 45 balls hitting 4 sixes and 4 fours.
Earlier in the day, West Indian ODI captain Dwayne Sammy won the toss but elected to field first. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan did not succeeded in building strong partenership as Ravi Rampaul got rid off Rohit in the 5th over of the inning. Rohit got caught by Darren Sammy at the slips on 12 runs.
Then Virat Kohli joined Dhawan and took India to 69 runs when Dhawan leg befored by Permaul at the 14th over on 35 runs off 37 balls hitting 5 fours.
Yuvraj and Virat jointly scored 69 runs for India and Yuvraj fell off Sammy's delivery. Yuvraj (28) got caught by Samuels in the 28th over.
Raina with Virat then started some hitting and provided 50 runs off 40 balls but again Windies bowler striked and Rampaul got rid off Raina at 23 runs when Bravo caught him.
Next to go was Virat who fell one run short of his ODI ton for the third time consecutively. Virat made 99 runs off 100 balls studded with 9 fours.
Jadeja went for 10 runs when he got bowled by Rampaul.
Skipper Dhoni (51), who reached his 50th ODI career fifty, did the hard hitting in the end and took India to
Ashwin (19) played his part well in the end with the captain by displaying a biggies and couple of boundaries but went to the pavilion on the second last ball of the inning.
For West Indies, the hero of the inning was pacer Ravi Rampaul who took 4 for 60 in his ten overs.
