New Delhi: Virat Kohli, the star cricketer and poster boy of Indian cricket, turns 26 today. The Delhi lad was born on November 5th 1988.

He's amongst the best batsman's Indian cricket has had. In a short career Kohli has achieved many feats which make him the new icon of Indian cricket after Sachin Tendulkar.

Known for his aggression, Kohli is the idol to many young up-coming cricketers in the country.

Virat Kohli not only makes news for his on field performances but also hits headlines on and off for his closeness to bollywood sensation Anushka Sharma with whom he is rumored to have been dating for few years now. His good looks also got him some lucrative ad campaigns.

Kohli started his cricketing career when he played for Delhi Under-15 team in October 2002 in Polly Umrigar Trophy. Then in 2004 he played for Delhi Under-17 team for the 2003–04 Vijay Merchant Trophy as well.

In 2006 Virat was selected in the India Under-19 squad on its tour of England.

Kohli captained the victorious Indian team at the 2008 U/19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia and since then there was no looking back for him.

Virat Kohli was selected in the ODI squad for India's tour of Sri Lanka in 2008 and made his debut against SL in the Idea Cup in 2008.

 

After his satisactory performances, Kohli played in the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy as well.

He became only the third Indian to score two ODI centuries before their 22nd birthday, following the footsteps of Tendulkar and Suresh Raina.

Thereafter, Kohli was included in the Indian squad for Zimbabwe T20I series in June-2010 and made T20I debut.

Virat also becaem the first Indian to score a century on World Cup debut in the World Cup 2011.

He was named vice-captain of the ODI team for the 2012 Asia Cup.

Virat Kohli was appointed captain of the Indian Cricket Team for the first time in 2013 in West Indies Triangular Series.

Kohli was given the honour to lead the team for the whole series for the first time. India won the series 5–0. As captain of the team for a full series for the first time, Kohli scored 197 runs in five ODIs.

Kohli is also amongst the top guns in the IPL and plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Presently, Kohli is a make shift captain of team India against Sri Lanka for the first 3 ODI's.

He is the fastest Indian to 1,000, 3,000, 4,000, and 5,000 One-Day International (ODI) runs.

At a early stage in his career, he already has 12 tons in successful chases in ODIs. Only Sachin Tendulkar is ahead with 14.

He has the fastest ton for India in ODIs — coming off only 52 balls against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.
