New Delhi: Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli has been rested for the three T20 internationals against Sri Lanka which is scheduled to begin on February 9. Virat's unavailability has come as an opportunity for Delhi all-rounder Pawan Negi who has received his first call for Team India for the series.

The first of the three-match series will be played on February 9 in Pune. The second T20 will be played in Ranchi on Feb 12 and the last T20 in Visakhapatnam on Feb 14.

The series will act as a preparation ground for both teams in the run up to the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup which will be held in India from March 8, 2016.

India recently wrapped up the Australia series with a 3-0 clean sweep in the three T20 matches which ended on Sunday. Virat Kohli was on Monday rewarded for his stupendous performance in India's clean sweep against Australia in the T20 internationals as he replaced Aaron Finch as the top-ranked batsman in the ICC list for the shortest format.

Squad for T20 series vs Sri Lanka: MS Dhoni (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pawan Negi.
