New Delhi: Virat Kohli became the first Indian batsman to score a century against arch-rivals Pakistan in World Cup on Sunday. The star batsman reached the feat with a single off Shahid Afridi in 42nd over.
The prolific batsman arrived at the crease in eighth over after Rohit Sharma fell of Sohail Khan. Kohli scripted a 129 run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan who contributed 73 runs with seven 4s and one 6.
The Delhi batsman already had 21 centuries when he arrived at the crease. His 22nd century came in 119 balls. He didn't last for long after that as he could only score seven more runs. Kohli's 107 runs came on 126 balls with eight boundaries.
Before Kohli's master inning today the highest score by any Indian batsman in a World Cup match against Pakistan was 98 by Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin scored 98 runs at Centurion in 2003 World Cup. Pakistan set a target of 274 runs against India in the match with the help of Saeed Anwar's 101.
