Ahmedabad: Maharashtra beat heavyweights Mumbai by six wickets in a west zone leg match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy here today.
Batting first, Mumbai were bowled out 211 in 44.2 overs with Wasim Jaffer top-scoring with 84 while pacer Dominic Joseph grabbed six for 25 in 8.2 overs. Akhil Herwadkar scored 44 and Suryakumar Yadav scored 40.
In reply, Maharashtra knocked off the runs in 48 overs with Ankit Bawne (78 no) anchoring the chase while Rohit Motwani (59) also contributed to the winning cause,
Sangram Atitkar (32) also did his bit as Maharashtra didn't have any porblems chasing the target losing only four wickets.
However, it was seamer Joseph, who was the hero for Maharashtra as they lost eight wickets for 100 runs from a relatively comfortable position of 111 for two.
Jaffar and Herwad kar added 79 runs for the second wicket which by far was the best partnership of the innings.
Jaffer hit seven fours and three sixes in 99-ball innings. It was Surya, whose lusty hitting got Mumbai past 200 as he hit 40 in 25 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.
However on a easy batting track, the score wasn't much for Maharashtra.
