Dubai, Nov 2: The International Cricket Council tonight said the guilty verdicts handed down to two Pakistani cricketers in the spot-fixing case in England will “have no impact” on the length of the suspensions meted out to them at its own hearing in Doha early this year.

“The ICC has been closely following the criminal trial at Southwark Crown Court in England over the past few weeks,” ICC chief Haroon Lorgat said at a press conference here, adding that the verdict was also a warning to players who might be tempted to engage in corrupt activity.

A court in England today found Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif guilty on the charges of conspiracy to cheat, obtain and accept corrupt payments.

“These outcomes appear to be consistent with the findings of the independent anti-corruption tribunal which was appointed earlier this year to hear charges brought against the three players by the ICC under our own Anti-Corruption Code,” he said.

“To be clear, the developments in the English criminal courts will have no impact upon those periods of suspension, which will remain in full force and effect,” he said.
