London: England batsman Jonathan Trott, whose mental issues led to his abrupt departure from last winter's Ashes tour, has confirmed his successful comeback to competitive cricket by signing a new three-year contract with Warwickshire.

"Jonathan played some of the best cricket of his career in the second half of last season," Dougie Brown, Warwickshire's director of cricket, was quoted as saying by the Guardian.

"He showed that he remains one of the leading batsmen in the English game. It's been great to see him enjoying his cricket and make such a big contribution to the team's strong finish to the season. He loves Warwickshire and playing cricket at Edgbaston, and everyone connected with the Club is thrilled to see him commit long-term," he added.

The new deal will keep Trott at Warwickshire until the end of the 2017 season, when he will be 36. Trott, who is happily settled in the Midlands since arriving at Warwickshire from South Africa in 2002, said he was delighted to sign a deal for the next three years.

"Warwickshire CCC is a very special club for me and my family and I would like to thank everyone associated with the club for their support. It has always been a great honour to represent the Bears and I am delighted to commit to the Club once again for a further three years. Hopefully we can build on the success of this year by achieving greater success in the years to come," he said.

It has been a great comeback for Trott from the verge of mental breakdown that put a question mark on his cricketing career after his Ashes nightmare.

Trott lost his central contract but by the end of the season he was back to scoring runs consistently for Warwickshire and found back the form that made him a mainstay of England's Test and one-day teams. He scoring a total of 1,156 runs including five centuries in the domestic circuit prompting suggestions that he could be considered for a place on this winter's Lions tour to South Africa.
