Bangalore: West Indies champions Barbados Tridents will take on New Zealand side Northern Knights in an inconsequential Group B league match of the Oppo Champions League Twenty20, here tuesday.
With Kings XI Punjab and Hobart Hurricanes already booking their semi-final spot from this group, bottom-placed Tridents and fourth-placed Knights have already bowed out of the tournament and the two sides will play for pride at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.
Tridents, who lack big names, come into this game after a loss at the hands of Cape Cobras in their last match, while Knights, in their last game, were outclassed by Kings XI Punjab, who entered the last-four in their maiden CL T20 appearance.
Knights, who started off well in the ‘powerplays' before their 216-run chase ran out of steam, were skittled out for paltry 95 in 15.2 overs.
The ‘Pink Panthers' from New Zealand, who had done well at the start of the tournament, found it difficult to handle the young spin duo of leg-spinner Karanveer Singh (4/15 in 3.2 overs) and left-arm spinner Akshar Patel (2/16 in 4 overs) during middle overs.
Tridents, on the other hand, were outwitted by Cobras in a thrilling ‘Super Over' contest in spite of a brilliant unbeaten 111 by Jonathan Carter.
Their batting depends on the likes of Carter and William Perkins.
In the bowling department, experienced campaigner Ravi Rampaul will really have to step up after a wicketless show against Cobras.
Jeevan Mendis has been the pick of their bowling attack and a lot will depend on him, Jason Holder and Ashley Nurse.
