Fixing the Spot
The revelations made by some fringe players in a sting operation had exposed that the vicious fang of fixing has started to take fancied IPL into its grasp. But the worse was unearthed when Delhi police arrested three players for fixing the game in IPL. The police had enough proof to show that all was not well in the richest league of cricket.
Rahul Dravid led Rajasthan Royals in IPL was most affected. Three key players Sreesanth, Ashok Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were accused are now suffering ban from cricket imposed on them by the BCCI.
Scandalous Betting
After the involvement of the players in spot fixing was exposed, it was now the turn for the big names to get involved in this controversy. The arrest of silver screen Vindoo Dara Singh and his subsequent revelations had led more worms coming out of the can. The biggest catch was Gurunath Meyippan son in law of the ex- BCCI president N Srinivasan.
In January 2015, The Supreme Court barred N Srinivasan from contesting BCCI polls and observed that his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan Royals franchise co-owner Raj Kundra are involved in betting.
The court while announcing the much-awaited verdict on Srinivasan's conflict of interest case said that BCCI functions are amenable to judicial review. The court also said that no BCCI administrator can have commercial interests.
KKR threatens to pull-out from IPL 8
In an another controversy days before the start of the eighth edition of Indian Premier League, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders threatened to pull-out over Sunil Narine's restriction from bowling.
Narine's action was earlier termed as illegal during the Champions League T20 last year and since then; he was banned to play in all events organized by the BCCI. Though he was cleared by ICC but Indian board continued their ban and demanded another bowling action test.
Kolkata franchisee was against the board's decision and warned that if Narine's action is not cleared by BCCI before the IPL, they will not be featuring in the 2015 season.
However few days later, BCCI allowed Sunil Narine to participate in the IPL which kicks off on April 8 between Kolkata and Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens.
Sunil Narine also known as ‘Mystery Spinner' has been the key player for the Kolkata Knight Riders in both their victories in 2012 and 2014 and they can't afford to lose him at any cost.
Rajasthan player approached for spot-fixing
It seems like Rajasthan Royals players are easy targets for match fixers. The spectre of corruption reared its ugly head yet again in the IPL with a Rajasthan Royals player reporting an approach for spot-fixing last month.
"A player was approached and he immediately intimated @BCCI anti corruption unit. Glad that BCCI education policy showing positive results" BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur tweeted.
Though Thakur did not reveal the identity of the Mumbai-based player, Rajasthan Royals has five cricketers from the city -- Ajinkya Rahane, Pravin Tambe, Dinesh Salunkhe, Dhawal Kulkarni and Abhishek Nayar.
Rajasthan Royals, at the centre of the 2013 spot-fixing scandal as well, also confirmed the development and promised zero tolerance.
