9) Kaushal Silva (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lankan opener Kaushal Silva after having being played 19 innings scored 850 runs in 2014 with an average of 44.73 and strike rate of 43.45 is at no. 9.
Kaushal Silva lived a charmed life on his way to a maiden and only test century (139) against Bangladesh in the month of January in his 7th test appearance.
Silva displayed one of his biggest strengths - patience, and his ability to occupy the crease would have been deflating enough for Bangladesh, if the three let-offs weren't bad enough. Silva's stint could have ended on 39 - he went on to add exactly 100 more, by which time he had already shared two century stands, with Dimuth Karunaratne and Kumar Sangakkara.
He also has 5 half centuries under his belt in the passing by year.
10) Kane Williamson (New Zealand)
The second Kiwi in the list Kane Williamson is the last batsman in the top 10 list.
He missed his maiden test double ton by just 8 runs after being dismissed at his career best 192 against Pakistan in the recent test series.
He shared a 297 runs stand with Brendon McCullum to post the New Zealand's highest total of 690 against Pakistan ever. That gave New Zealand a mammoth lead of 286 runs over Pakistan's first innings total of 351, setting them up strongly for a series-levelling win.
In his second tour of the West Indies in June 2014, Williamson finished as the top run-getter with 413 runs, including two hundreds that contributed to a historic series win for New Zealand. The tour had a low point for Williamson too, as he was reported for a suspect bowling action after the second Test in Trinidad and was suspended from bowling following a biomechanical analysis.
