New Delhi: The year 2014 had been an eventful year for the test cricket. Starting from the historic whitewash of England by the Australians in Return Ashes to the much awaited India tour of Australia, there had been many remarkable performances by the batsmen who brought glory to their nation.
However there is bad news for Indian cricket fans as there is no Indian batsman in the top 10 list of best test cricketers of the year. Murali Vijay who is at 12th position is the only Indian in top 15 cricketers after his recent heroics in Australia tests.
India TV looks at 10 robust test performances with the bat:
1) Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka)
The Sri Lankan veteran Kumar Sangakkara leads the list of best test cricketers of the year 2014.
In 20 innings of 11 test matches played, Sanga scored 1486 runs at a staggering average of 78.21 with the strike rate of 55.78. He scored his highest test individual score of 319 against Bangladesh in February 2014 which was followed by another double century (221) against Pakistan in August.
He also scored most number of half centuries (9) in tests and second highest number of centuries (4) with Steven Smith, Misbah-ul-Haq and Kane Williamson. Apart from this he also hit most number of boundaries (161) and is much ahead of David Warner with 124 boundaries in 8 tests.
