The first time both the teams met was in 1984. The hero of the match was Surender Khanna. Pakistan had four seamers in Sarfraz Nawaz, Azeem Hafeez, Shahid Mahboob and Mudassar Nazar and just one spinner in Abdul Qadir but Khanna made a 72-ball 56 as India finished at 188 for four in 46 overs after batting first. Pakistan were bowled out for 134, thanks to some fine bowling by Roger Binny who took three wickets.
