Nottingham, May 27: England moved nervously to 340-6 at lunch Sunday on day three of the second test, still trailing West Indies by 30 runs with four first innings wickets remaining.
England captain Andrew Strauss remained unbeaten on 125, with 20 fours from 268 balls, and Tim Bresnan was 4 not out at Trent Bridge.
Starting the day on 259-2, England lost four wickets during the morning session.
Ravi Rampaul, who has 3-61, trapped Kevin Pietersen lbw for 80 and Kemar Roach removed Ian Bell and Jonny Bairstow.
West Indies captain Darren Sammy also bowled Matt Prior for 16.
A near-capacity crowd hoped to see Pietersen reproduce some of the flamboyance he'd shown in reaching his overnight score of 72.
Pietersen began with a flicked single from Rampaul and a stylish paddle sweep for four off Shane Shillingford, but he was lbw to Rampaul in the third over of the morning and wasted England's final referral in an unsuccessful attempt to overturn Aleem Dar's decision.
Dinesh Ramdin then missed a chance to get rid of Bell on 15 when he failed to catch a nick from Shillingford, but Bell added just seven runs before he was given out lbw to Roach for 22, after a West Indies referral.
Roach initially seemed to have recovered from delivering too many no-balls on Saturday and he claimed a second victim when Bairstow was caught off a leading edge by Shivnarine Chanderpaul for just 4.
Although Roach's problems resurfaced towards the end of the session — with the extras total now on 30 — West Indies ended the morning in a better situation than many predicted when Matt Prior was clean bowled for 16 by Sammy.
