Mirpur, Bangladesh: Sri Lanka's Kaushal Silva struck 139 runs to help Sri Lanka confirm a firm control on the first test against Bangladesh on the second day on Tuesday.
Mahela Jayawardene was unbeaten on 42.
Apart from Silva's century, Kumar Sangakkara added 75 while Dinesh Chandimal made 40.
After a disappointing second session, Bangladesh bounced back into the match, claiming four wickets with Shakib Al Hasan leading the way with 4-94.
Silva was smart enough to utilize the opportunity and earned his maiden century. In the early stages of the day he was repeatedly beaten by the pace bowlers and was troubled by Al-Amin Hossain.
On 39, he edged to wicket-keeper Mushfqur Rahim but the captain could not hold the catch. When Silva was on 42, Shamsur Rahman dropped a chance at second slip, frustrating the bowlers who had worked hard through the session.
Al-Amin also got Silva on 40 but a no-call from umpire gave him another lifeline.
On 129, he survived again when he edged to Mushfiqur Rahim off Shakib delivery. Later he went after Shakib with an aggressive mood as he hit six and four in his consecutive two balls. The left-arm, however, took the revenge by trapping him in front that ended his six-and-a half-hour vigil in the crease. Silva scored 139 off 244 that included 16 fours and two sixes.
Earlier, Silva added 155 runs with Kumar Sangakkara who also seemed to have got his century. Al-Amin was rewarded for his tireless job taking out Sangakkara who edged to Nasir Hosssain in the first slip. Nasir held the catch in third attempt.
Shakib got Dinesh Chandiman with one that sharply turned to hit the top of the off-stump, the best delivery of the day.
Chandimal made 40 and looked set to end the day without any trouble with Jayawardene.
Sohag Gazi then took nightwatchman Suranga Lakmal in the last over of the day.
