Kolkata: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly's school and sports academy will come up along with medical and film institutes at Batanagar in the southwestern fringes of the city.
Apollo will develop the medical science and research institute along with a 1000-bed hospital, while Kolkata Studios will build a 15-acre film city.
Laying the foundation stone for the three projects, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said the Hiland project will be connected by a flyover from Jinjira Bajar that will come up in about two years' time.
"People here will have access to education, sports, cinema and hospital facilities before them. We had some bottlenecks and it took about 8-10 meetings to get the project cleared. The credit goes to my family," Banerjee said.
Hailing Apollo for coming up with the idea of medical and research institute, Ganguly said: "We have seen they have world class facility at Salt Lake in East Kolkata. I live in Behala Chowrasta area and know the importance of a good hospital here. Now everything will be here."
