Colombo, Sri Lanka: England's James Taylor hit a maiden international half-century to carry the tourists to 265 after batting first in the fourth one-day international against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Taylor, playing his third match, made 90 off 109 deliveries and was involved in an important 93- run partnership for the third wicket with Joe Root (36) after the tourists lost two wickets for 29 electing to bat first at R. Premadasa Stadium.

Stand-in captain Eoin Morgan hit four boundaries and three sixes for a 47-ball 62 and was out to the last delivery of the innings. Regular captain Alastair Cook served a one-match suspension for maintaining a slower over rate in the third game that England won in Hambantota.

Alex Hales was out for a first-ball duck in the second over of the match bowled by seamer Dhammika Prasad caught by Mahela Jayawardene. Moin Ali was caught behind for 19 in 20 deliveries leaving the tourists two down for 29.

Taylor and Root then rebuilt the innings over 18 overs before left-arm spinner Rangana Herath bowled Root out.

Spinners Herath, Ajantha Mendis and Tillakaratne Dilshan all took three wickets each with Herath returning best figures 3-36.

Sri Lanka leads the seven-match series 2-1.
