Mohali, Mar 17: Team India's explosive batsman Shikhar Dhawan was ultimately out, caught by Cowan off Lyon's ball on Sunday morning, for 187 runs, the highest made by an Indian batsman on his Test debut.
His opening partner Murali Vijay then went on to complete his century.
Cheteshwar Pujara was unfortunately out for a single leg before to a Peter Siddle ball.
Dhawan had surpassed Gundappa Vishwanath's record of highest runs in a Test debut by an Indian on Saturday, and was on his way to a double ton, when he was out at 187.
