New Delhi: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on Friday expressed his solidarity with the victims of floods in Chennai and hoped that the city will bounce back to normalcy soon.

The Rajya Sabha MP expressed condolences with the families of victims of Chennai's worst ever flood.

“Chennai is fighting back and we are with you. My thoughts are with people who have lost their dear ones,” Sachin wrote on his Twitter account.

“Praying that each of you will overcome these challenging times and bounce back to normalcy #ChennaiFloods,” the master blaster further wrote.

As per the data provided by the government, 269 people have lost their lives in Tamil Nadu, 54 in Andhra Pradesh and two in Puducherry.

Teams of NDRF and army personnel and police and fire service men swung into action to rescue people from their flooded homes in Chennai as a relatively dry spell in the city and its neighbourhood brought relief to the flood affected residents.

Water levels began receding as Chennai counted one more day of no rains on Friday morning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday conducted aerial surveys of the areas battered by the unprecedented rains and announced Rs Rs 1000 crore more for relief work in Tamil Nadu.

This will be in addition to the Rs 940 crore already announced by the Centre.
