19.15 IST: Bangalore beat Punjab by six runs in Sharjah
Regular fall of wickets derailed Punjab's run-chase as they suffered a six-run defeat against Bangalore in Sharjah. Rahul and Mayank started well, stitching a 91-run opening stand before the Punjab run-chase faltered. Chahal (3/29) spun his web to restrict Punjab to 158/6 in their 20 overs.
Earlier, Padikkal's 40 set the tone before Maxwell (57 off 33 deliveries) and De Villiers (23 from 18 balls) added some late fireworks to help Bangalore post 164/7 in 20 overs in Sharjah. Maxwell, up against his old IPL franchise, slammed four maximums and two fours en route his consecutive IPL half-century.
On the bowling front, Henqirues recorded his career-best figures, picking a three-fer including the prized scalp of Kohli. He also dismissed a set Padikkal to rock Bangalore's top-order. Maxwell, however, boosted the innings with his fearless strokeplay towards the end. Shami also ended up picking three wickets.
19.00 IST: OUT! Three blows for Punjab within minutes. Garton removes Markram, who tries to clear long-on boundaries but picks out Christian. Is Punjab throwing the match away again? Punjab 138/5 after 18 overs.
18.54 IST: OUT! Chahal takes his third! Chahal's twin-strike has driven Bangalore back in the contest. Sarfaraz, who completely misses the sharp leg-break delivery, departs for a golden duck. Chahal finishes with figures of 3/29. He is now tied with Bumrah for most IPL wickets in the UAE --38.
18.51 IST: OUT! Chahal strikes again to remove a set Mayank. Mayank goes for the sweep but an under-edge pops it to Siraj, who runs in from short third-man to complete an easy catch.
18.34 IST: OUT! Chahal strikes, removes Pooran for 3. Pooran attempts the sweep but picks out Padikkal at deep backward square. Chahal picks up his first and Kohli is pumped up. Punjab 99/2 after 13 overs.
18.29 IST: Will be interesting to see Mayank's approach after Rahul's departure. With nine wickets in hand and 71 needed off last eight overs, Punjab would fancy their chances. Pooran joins Mayank in the chase.
18.25 IST: OUT! Shahbaz breaks the opening stand, removes Rahul for 39. An outside edge and Harshal plucks an easy catch at short third-man. Punjab 92/1 after 11 overs.
18.05 IST: Chahal into the attack! He has picked up seven wickets in four matches of the UAE leg so far, including a three-fer against Mumbai. Has the team management discarded Chahal too early before the World T20?
18.02 IST: Punjab 49/0 after 6 overs. Just three runs off Harshal's over as he sticks with his slower deliveries. A disciplined bowling effort by Bangalore in the Powerplay but they are still searching for the breakthrough. Rahul (26*) and Mayank (19*) still at the crease.
17.53 IST: Effortless! Shahbaz into the attack and Rahul welcomes him with a six down the ground. 512 runs in 12 games so far for the Punjab skipper. Rahul, in the previous edition, had scored 670 runs in 14 matches to finish as the top run-scorer.
17.51 IST: Punjab 33/0 after 4 overs. Rahul-Mayank has been decent so far, negating early threats and helping Punjab get off to a steady start.
17.44 IST: KL Rahul survives early scare. He was given out LBW by the umpire in the third over and he reviewed it immediately. The sharp nip-backer from Siraj took the inside edge, as shown by the UltraEdge. Meanwhile, Rahul completes 500 runs this season, the second batsman after CSK's Gaikwad.
17.12 IST: Opener Padikkal's 40 set the tone before Maxwell (57off 33 deliveries) and De Villiers (23 from 18 balls) added some late fireworks to help Bangalore post 164/7 in 20 overs in Sharjah. Maxwell, up against his old IPL franchise, slammed four maximums and three fours en route his consecutive IPL half-century.
On the bowling front, Henqirues recorded his career-best figures, picking a three-fer including the prized scalp of Kohli. He also dismissed a set Padikkal to rock Bangalore's top-order. Maxwell, however, boosted the innings with his fearless strokeplay towards the end. Shami also finished with three wickets after taking two in two in the last over.
17.00 IST: OUT! De Villiers returns to the dugout. A direct hit from Sarfaraz and De Villiers is well short of the crease.
16.54 IST: De Villiers joins the party. A big over for RCB! 17 runs off Shami's over that featured a maximum and a four by De Villiers. Bangalore 132/3 after 17 overs.
16.49 IST: Henriques concedes just 6 runs in his last over. An impressive show by the Aussie all-rounder. Also, career-best figures for him -- 4-0-12-3
16.42 IST: It's raining sixes in Sharjah. 16 off Bishnoi's over after Maxwell slams consecutive sixes. The Aussie is targetting the short boundary to boost the innings. Bangalore 109/3 after 15 overs.
16.38 IST: Maxwell clears the mid-wicket boundary against Brar. The Big Show looking to boost Bangalore's declining run rate.
16.30 IST: OUT! Henriques strikes again. Medium pace doing the trick here. He gets his third, removes a set Padikkal for 40. De Villiers joins Maxwell at the crease. Bangalore 73/3 after 13 overs.
16.25 IST: OUT! Two in two for Henriques! He removes Kohli and Christian to drive Punjab back in the game. Kohli looks to whack it over mid-wicket but the ball stays low and disturbs the furniture. Christian falls for a duck as he picks out Sarfaraz at backward point.
16.11 IST: Padikkal survives! Bishnoi beats the left-hander again with a sharp googly. Padikkal tried the reverse sweep but fails to connect. Ultra Edge shows a small spike but the third umpire sticks with the on-field call of not out. Skipper Rahul seems to be unhappy with the decision. Kolkata 60/0 after 8 overs.
15.56 IST: Bangalore 55/0 after Powerplay. 13 runs off Arshdeep's over as the opening duo steers Bangalore to a solid start. Bishnoi managed to outfox Padikkal but the left-hander has not shied away from taking risks, hitting boundaries at timely intervals. Padikkal has scored 34 off 23 deliveries while Kohli is on 18 from 13 balls.
15.49 IST: Kohli survives again! This time, Sarfaraz Khan drops the catch at midwicket. This one was tough, as Sarfaraz made a full stretch for a high jump and yet couldn't grab the ball properly.
15.48 IST: KL Rahul misses a relatively easy stumping chance to dismiss Virat Kohli! How costly will it prove for the PBKS? RCB 34/0 in 4 overs
15.39 IST: Padikkal and Kohli give RCB a steady start in the game. The left-handed Padikkal took on Arshdeep Singh in the third over, hitting a six and four off successive deliveries. RCB 24/0 in 3 overs
