Chandigarh, Oct 30: The Punjab government has withdrawn its offer made to Team India cricketer Harbhajan Singh 10 years ago, to join its police as a DSP (deputy superintendent).

The offer was made in February 2002.  At that time chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had showered praises on the cricketer,  calling him 'Punjab da puttar',  and gave him  a cash award of Rs 5 lakh and a residential plot in his home district Jalandhar.

A senior official in the government told Times of India, "The deputy chief minister (Sukhbir Singh Badal) has made adverse remarks on Bhajji's file and the case is almost closed. Bhajji has been busy in the glamour world and preferred not to serve his state."

Harbhajan Singh was recently demoted by the  Board for Control of Cricket in India ( BCCI) from Grade A to Grade B, which effectively reduces his fee from Rs 1 crore to 50 lakh per year.
