Leeds (England), Jun 24: Kevin Pietersen scored a swashbuckling century for county side Surrey on Sunday in his first competitive innings after a three-month injury layoff, boosting his chances of playing for England in the upcoming Ashes series against Australia.
The South African-born batsman passed the hundred mark off just 106 balls and went on to hit an unbeaten 177 on day three of Surrey's County Championship match against Yorkshire at Headingley. His 188-ball knock contained 17 fours and seven sixes.
Pietersen hasn't played any competitive cricket since leaving England's tour of New Zealand in March with a knee injury. He is attempting to prove his fitness ahead of the first Ashes test, starting July 10 in Nottingham.
