Lahore, May 3: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)  has denied reports that it has sought any explanation from head coach Dav Whatmore for the fitness tests conducted of players including former captain Mohammed Yousuf last week.

A PCB statement  said reports saying that the board was at odds with Whatmore on Yousuf's test and possible recall, were “baseless.”

“The PCB wishes to clarify that no explanation has been sought from the coach on this or any other issue,” the statement said.

An Indian newspaper had reported  that a PCB official “asked Whatmore what was the reason behind allowing Yousuf to train at the National Cricket Academy with the Pakistan team and also to allow him to take the fitness test that led the media and former players to speculate that the coach was planning to bring back Yousuf into the national side,”

Following Yousuf's appearance for the fitness test, it was also being said that head of the national selection committee Iqbal Qasim was unhappy with Whatmore.

Qasim, however, said all was well between him and the recently-hired coach.

In its statement, the PCB  said: “Rumour-based stories such as differences between the coach and chief selector Iqbal Qasim are absolutely incorrect.”

“Every official is on one page with regards to the objective: taking Pakistan cricket forward in a seamless manner,” the statement said.
