The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ejaz Butt, in his first reaction to the announcement by Pakistani star batsman Shoaib Malik and Indian tennis giant Sania Mirza about their marriage, has hoped the wedding would help improve Indo-Pak relations.
"While the decision by Shoaib and Sania is a personal one to get married, but I am sure it will have far-reaching effects and help improve relations between the two countries," Butt said.
He said the marriage of two big sports names in Pakistan and India meant a lot to the people.
"I am sure the marriage will help regulate not only sporting relations but also help the people to come closer to each other and improve government to government level relations," he added.
He wished the couple the best and hoped they would continue their sporting careers and excel in them.
Malik is presently serving a 12-month ban by the Pakistan board for indiscipline and is presently playing in Sharjah in the Bangladesh T20 domestic league.
A number of big names of Pakistan sports, including Imran Khan and Inzamam-ul-Haq, have all wishes the couple well and prayed for their happy marriage.
