Cape Town, South Africa: Returning Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and opted to bat in the first one-day international on Sunday as South Africa recalled veteran Jacques Kallis for his first ODI game in nearly two years.

Misbah came back in to lead the tourists after the drawn T20 series, while Pakistan handed ODI debuts to allrounder Bilawal Bhatti and seamer Anwar Ali in the series-opener.

AB de Villiers was back to captain South Africa and 38-year-old all-rounder Kallis was picked for his first ODI since February 2012. Opener Graeme Smith also returned to the side after recovering from the post-concussion syndrome he sustained when he was hit on the helmet by a bouncing delivery in the two teams' recent test series in United Arab Emirates.

South Africa won 4-1 when the countries met in a one-day series in U.A.E. earlier this month and picked an experienced team at Newlands for the start of the return series.

The Proteas selected their first-choice test bowling lineup, with Vernon Philander coming in to the lineup to join fellow seamers Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel. Imran Tahir was the front-line spinner.

Pakistan maintained much of the team that played in the two T20s, with Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal providing the two key spinning options.

Lineups

Pakistan: Misbah-ul-Haq (captain), Ahmed Shehzad, Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Hafeez, Sohaib Maqsood, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Bilawal Bhatti, Saeed Ajmal, Junaid Khan, Anwar Ali.

South Africa: AB de Villiers (captain), Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Jacques Kallis, JP Duminy, David Miller, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir.
