Christchurch, New Zealand: Trent Boult took three wickets, including his 100th in only his 29th test, as New Zealand sent Sri Lanka to lunch wobbling at 38-3 in reply to its first innings of 441 Saturday on the second day of the first cricket test at Hagley Oval.

Boult dismissed openers Dimuth Karunaratne (0) and Kaushal Silva (4), both to lbw decisions within the first five overs, then removed Kumar Sangakkara for 6.

At lunch Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews was 15 not out and Lahiru Thirimanne was unbeaten on 11. Boult had 3-11 from seven overs.

Left-armer Boult removed Karunaratne with the fourth ball of the innings to become the 13th New Zealander to take 100 test wickets. He swung the first three balls away from the batsman, then brought the fourth back off the seam, trapping Karunaratne in front as he played down the wrong line.

Boult then removed Silva with a fuller ball which also swung late and trapped the batsman in front of middle stump. Silva's appeal to the television umpire was unsuccessful.

Sangakkara started his 129th test match with 11,988 test runs, needing 12 more to become the fifth play in history to surpass 12,000 runs in tests. He was halfway to that total when he edged a catch to Tim Southee at third slip off Boult.

New Zealand resumed at 429-7 Saturday and Sri Lanka needed only 26 minutes and 5.2 overs to capture its last three wickets for 12 runs.

Mathews removed Tim Southee for a duck to finish with 3-39 while Suranga Lakmal dismissed Neil Wagner (4) and Trent Boult (0) to end with 3-90.

New Zealand's innings was built around the 195 of captain Brendon McCullum which included the fastest century by a New Zealander in tests. Jimmy Neesham made 85 and Kane Williamson 54.
