New Zealand declared its second innings at 250-9 a half-hour before lunch Friday, an overall lead of 260, soon after Tim Southee was out following hit three successive sixes off Zulfiqar Babar (4-96).
Taylor, 77 overnight, completed his century off 129 balls with a dozen boundaries and added 60 runs with Mark Craig (34) to set Pakistan a tricky target from 72 overs.
Craig, who was dropped on 7, and Taylor were both adjudged lbw to legspinner Yasir Shah (5-79) with three deliveries as New Zealand looked for quick runs.
