Paarl (South Africa), Jan 19: James Franklin held his nerve with an unbeaten 47 to help New Zealand upset South Africa with a one-wicket victory in the first one-day international on Saturday.
The experienced all-rounder steered the lower order as the Black Caps made heavy work of chasing down South Africa's modest 208 all out in 46.2 overs.
New Zealand won with 26 balls to spare.
Apart from BJ Watling (45), most New Zealand batsmen struggled with Ryan McLaren claiming career-best bowling figures of 4-46.
