New Delhi: The Supreme Court said on Monday that exiled BCCI president N Srinivasan should have refrained from functioning as the cricket board chief after the apex court had declared that he was in a conflict of interest situation.

Referring to its January 2 verdict holding that Srinivasan, being head of BCCI and the owner of the Chennai Super Kings, was in a conflict of interest situation, the apex court bench headed by Justice TS Thakur said: "Having said that it makes him very vulnerable... we are not very happy about it."

"With people like you advising him, people must have realised the implication of our order," Justice Thakur told senior counsel Kapil Sibal, who appeared for Srinivasan in a contempt petition moved against him by the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB).

The court adjourned the hearing till Friday as Sibal sought some time to seek instruction from Srinivasan in the wake of the observation made by the court on Monday.
