Mumbai Indians broke the Delhi Capitals winning streak to win their 3rd match on the trot in the 7th match of the Women's Premier League on Thursday. In the match, the Meg lanning-led team registered the lowest total in the history of WPL so far and suffered defeat to Harmanpreet Kaur-led team by 8 wickets. Mumbai Indians registered an easy victory to retain their position on the points table.

Opting to bat first, Delhi Capitals managed to register just 105 runs. Saika Ishaque, Isabelle Wong, and Hayley Matthews troubled their batters and took three wickets apiece to bundle out the Capitals in just 18 overs.

With a small target to chase, Mumbai romped home to their third win in a row in just 15 overs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (11 not out) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (23 not out) taking them past the finish line.

Chasing the low target, the opening pair of Yastika Bhatia (41) and Hayley Matthews (32) smashed 47 runs in the powerplay and they shared a 65-run stand for the first wicket.

The first match between the top two teams in the WPL standings was expected to be a high-voltage match. However, it turned out to be a one-sided game. Lanning who scored 43 runs was the highest individual total of the innings while her deputy Rodrigues’ scored 25.

The only bright spot for Delhi was the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket between Lanning and Rodrigues. To their credit, Mumbai bowled tight lines to not allow Delhi batters to get away. the Delhi batters hit just nine boundaries and a maximum in the entire innings.

Delhi Capitals will next face Gujarat Giants on March 11. On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians will lock horns with the UP Warriorz on March 12.
