Karachi:  Pakistan's banned left-arm pacer, Muhammad Aamir is likely to represent Rawalpindi team in the national Super Eights Twenty20 event, scheduled to be held in Faisalabad from May 11.

A senior official of the Rawalpindi cricket association said they were looking to field Aamir in the major tournament.

"Aamir belongs to Rawalpindi and since he is allowed to play in domestic cricket he can represent our team in the national event," the official said.

The pacer, who is serving a five-year ban for spot fixing which ends in September, has been allowed by the ICC to play domestic cricket in Pakistan.

Aamir represented Omar Associates in the non-first class Patrons Trophy Grade 2 competition in March-April taking them to the final with 22 wickets in four matches but in the final he suffered a hamstring injury and also saw his team lose the match.

A PCB official said Aamir was training at the national cricket academy in Lahore and recovering from his hamstring injury.

"He will resume bowling soon so he could be available to play in the national super eights tournament," he added.

The winner of the super eights competition will represent Pakistan in this year's Champions League.
