Melbourne, Aug 20: Sacked as a selection panel member after a review of Australia's cricketing decline in the past couple of years, a miffed Greg Chappell could quit as the country's national talent manager as well, media reports here claimed.
According to reports, "Chappell may walk away from Australian cricket after being sacked as a selector in a brutal review handed down yesterday."
In a review chaired by former bank and mining boss Don Argus, chief selector Andrew Hilditch and Chappell were sacked while coach Tim Nielsen was asked reapply for the job.
The Argus-led review panel included former ICC CEO Malcolm Speed and former captains Allan Border, Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor.
CA chief executive James Sutherland indicated that Chappell, who had a stormy stint as India coach, may not have taken the sacking too well.
"In terms of whether Greg is happy or not, that's something you can ask him," Sutherland said.
"I've spoken to him ahead of these recommendations being handed down so he understands what was recommended, what the board has adopted in that respect, and we'll work from there.
"He may well have some decisions to make himself about that, but that's really in his hands. It was a brief conversation. He needs time to digest that," he added.
Chappell had reportedly driven players "mad" and was barred from the dressing room in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.
Sutherland admitted he was aware of a rift.
"I'm not aware of any sort of barring. I know there were various tensions during the course of a summer where players wanted their own time in the dressing room," Sutherland said.
"I think at various stages I probably wasn't welcome in the dressing rooms either."
