New Delhi: Sana Mir born 5 January 1986 in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is a female Pakistani cricketer and captain of the Pakistan women's team. She Is the Right Handed Bats women and Leg break Bowler. She was declared Player of the Tournament at the 2008 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier and currently ranks 16th in the Women's ODI Bowlers in the ICC Player Rankings. She is also the only Pakistani in the top 20.She made her ODI debut for Pakistan Women against Sri Lanka Women at Karachi, Dec 28, 2005 and T20 debut against Ireland Women at Dublin, May 25, 2009.Sana became Pakistan women cricket team's captain in 2009 to lead her team in the Women's World Twenty20 tournament. Pakistan Women's team won The 2010 Asian Games Gold Medal under Sana Mir's Captaincy. Though the performance was not up to the Mark in Women's World Cup 2013 in India, where her team could not even win a single match. The Pakistan team finished last in the eight-team event. The women's team has qualified for the 2012 T20 and 2013 Women's ODI world cup under her captaincy. For the first time ever, the team also beat South Africa, thereby, improving their world ranking from 8 to 6.By Winning the National Championship for the fourth time in a row, Sana Mir has become the most successful captain of Pakistan at domestic level. Her team has not yet lost a game at domestic level in the past four years.She was also awarded the Women of the Match title in the T20 quadrangular-cup. Sana Mir has scored 767 runs in 67 ODI matches with an Average of 13.94 and also has 74 wickets with one five wicket haul. In T20I career Sana Mir has scored 436 Runs in 48 Matches with an average of 14.53 and has 44 wickets and 2 four wicket hauls.Sana Mir won't accept that she is a pioneer for women's cricket in Pakistan. That title, she says, has to go to the women who fought for years for recognition from the country's cricket board, to the family that installed turf pitches on the grounds of its Karachi carpet factory to ensure access to training facilities, to the players who embarked on overseas tours at their own expense knowing they would end in heavy defeat. Sana Mir also became the first woman cricketer to receive PCB Woman cricketer of the Year Award 2013. Before the women's team came under the auspices of the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2005, she attended a training camp at the home of Shaiza and Sharmeen Khan, the sisters who started the national team in the '90s and whose father, a wealthy businessman, financed their tours and in some cases housed and clothed the players.Shaiza Khan told The Guardian in 2000 that religious opposition receded after she promised a fundamentalist leader the team would never play against men, but the PCB continued to make their lives a bureaucratic nightmare.“It had been a childhood dream of ours to play for Pakistan and we thought that we could just start up a team," Khan said at the time. "We didn't have proper knowledge. Benazir Bhutto had just taken over the leadership of Pakistan and people were worried that women were going to take over everything."Mir, now Pakistan's captain, middle-order bat and crafty off-spinner, learnt to play cricket on the streets of Pakistan – there were few facilities for girls – and started up teams with her brother and his friends wherever her father's army posting took the family.She was one of nine debutants when Pakistan's women first played under the PCB banner in 2005, but Shaiza Khan and her sister, unable to make peace with the ruling body, were not there.Mir and her teammates have contracts from the PCB and, with the exception of those studying for masters degrees, all are full-time cricketers.
